Broadway is just busting with talent. It’s true! Throw a stone in one of the rehearsal studio buildings during the day and you’re more likely than not to hit a person who can shuffle off to buffalo and hit a high C while doing it, and be great at both. But it sometimes feels like there is no real way to break into the business we call show, or go from high school stardom to that elusive equity card.
The New York Musical Theater Festival was set up to help those new budding writers and composers along by giving their shows a showcase. And NYMF has not neglected the budding performers who might also need a foot in the door – they created NYMF’s Next Broadway Sensation to highlight the young or lesser known, who are still nonetheless the crazy talented. And we’re pleased as punch to announce that this year, our very own Liz Caplan will be on hand to act as mentor, helper, guide, and friendly neighborhood Tim Gunn, giving pointers and tips. Go HERE to get more information – this coming Sunday you can see the contestants sing the songs of new composers, and if you want to be able to say you saw the stars of tomorrow back when, I think you best head on down to New World Stages. See you there!
