If you live in New York City, you might have noticed two things this weekend – one, that it is so hot that you wonder when New York started doing its best impression of the inside of a mouth, and two, that the streets seem just a little bit more rainbow-hued and festive this weekend.
Yes, it’s Pride Weekend, when the city gathers together to celebrate its population of Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transgendered people, and everything in between. And because it’s New York, this is celebrated in Style. Our favorite Pride-related event (although technically this was last week) is the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS striptastical, ‘Broadway Bares’, in which Broadway dancers and performers prove that ours is the sexiest industry, by stripping down to their scanties and pasties. Our favorite coverage was by the unmatched Susan Blackwell, hilarious as always – although just try looking at anything that isn’t Jerry Mitchell’s abs.
Our other favorite Pride Weekend video is of the Gay Men’s Chorus in Los Angeles, doing their own delightful spin on Verdi’s ‘Anvil Chorus’ – just going to prove that 1. even opera can benefit from some glistening six-packs every once in a while, and 2. if you wanted to sing with a chorus and spend your days looking at those three guys hit an anvil while you sing, you might want to consider downloading the new studio app for Choir singing (available for both men and women), which is only $9.99 and available now! Your vocal chords will be as toned and beautiful as Jerry Mitchell’s butt, and that’s saying a lot.
